Now let¡¯s talk about TERNPC. What is TERNPC? The ¡°Technology
of Efficient and Rapid Non-test tube Plant Cloning¡± (TERNPC),
as its name shows, is a rapid plant cloning technology without
test tubes, and it is greatly different from tissue culture.
No test tube means no lab needed. No lab means no expensive
equipment,
complex apparatus and more professional personnel needed. Finally
LOW COST! That is why we should talk about TERNPC.
TERNPC was first
invented by Professor Li Changxiao, who is a tissue culture
scientist with ten-year experience in the application of
tissue culture, and taught such college courses as Cell
Biology, Cell Genetics, Molecular Biology years ago. And his
25-year hard research and work on plant asexual propagation
brought about the birth of TERNPC.
TERNPC can not only overcome nearly all the shortages
of tissue culture and conventional methods but keep all
their merits as well.
Like tissue culture, TERNPC uses a micro-plant material¡ªa
3-10 mm long section of plant stem with a leaf¡ªas an explant, which
is directly grown on the sand bed to radicate other than in
the test tube. A few days later, a seedling will grow up in
the substrate and can be transplanted to the field anywhere.
The seedling often has 3-6 roots, sometimes 30-40. Due to
the highly-developed root system, the seedlings are very
strong and the survival rate is remarkably high, always
between 85-100%.
With simple facilities, TERNPC can work well in poor
conditions around the year whether it is in the south or
north with different altitudes, different soils, different
climates or different temperatures (-35~42 ¡æ).
Besides, simple operational steps make it easier for common
people to master. One person without professional knowledge
can take all or part of the work after a short-time
training. The speed of inoculation will be 3-5 times as fast
as tissue culture. A technician well trained for 4 months
can produce 30,000-100,000 seedlings each month.
In a word, the most significant characteristics of TERNPC
can be described as low cost, rapid propagation speed, high
efficiency, considerable benefit and easily reaching large
scale.
So far more than 650 varieties of plants have been
successfully propagated with TERNPC and with an annual
growth of 50 in number. A period of 18 years is not a long
time. However, even in this relatively short period of time,
TERNPC has been adapted to various conditions, and 18-year
application practice has made it more and more perfect.
An
area, where TERNPC promises to play an important role in the
future, is growing seedlings for reforestation, orchards,
and ornamental shrubbery. TERNPC can also be used for
the preservation and the expansion of rare plants and
economic plants, etc. In the future, more and more people
